South Bristol needs more bus services, not less

Commons 16 Dec 2015Commenting on plans by First Bus to remove the 51 bus service, Bristol South MP Karin Smyth said: “Like many other bus users I am angry First wants to cut the 51 from early September, because it provides many local people with a vital service to get to and from work, shops, schools and colleges, and the South Bristol Community Hospital.

“First have told me they want to cut the 51 because it is losing money. In these cases, the local transport authority is able to offer, so I have written to Bristol City Council, asking them to step in so that people who rely on the 51 can still use it.

“I think south Bristol people need more bus services, not less.

“I am keen to hear from people who will be affected by these proposals, so that I can take concerns directly to First and to the city council as they plan ahead.”
