Tories in Bristol need to explain what – if anything – they are doing to fight the city’s corner by influencing the government to help the city through its severe financial challenges, says a Bristol MP.
“We are seeing a phenomenal level of government-imposed cuts to local authorities,” says Karin Smyth MP (Bristol South).
“It is incumbent on Tory councillors and Bristol’s Tory MP to use any influence they have to press their Tory government to explain what is happening in our city.
“Bristol Tories must surely represent the interests of Bristol residents who face huge cuts to the services they need and expect the city council to provide.
“They need to lobby their colleagues in national government, telling Theresa May the city needs more money. And they must also clearly explain to residents what they are doing. To date there’s been a deafening silence from Bristol Tories about what they are actually doing to help Bristol through the challenges we currently face.”
