Commenting on today’s government announcement that part of the project to electrify the Great Western railway route has been deferred, Bristol South MP Karin Smyth said: “The electrification of our local railway line is vital to the region’s future economic prosperity.
“Passengers will be horrified and mystified that, having been promised electrification – and having endured considerable disruption already, the government is now pulling the plug.”
