As a member of the Public Accounts Committee, I have been working in the Committee and elsewhere in Parliament to highlight the problems facing the NHS over funding and other issues.
I see the impact of these problems locally, in my regular surgeries, for example with acute pressures on GPs and waits for operations.
I took the opportunity to speak in the health and social care Estimates Day debate on Monday 27 February and you can read what I said here
The debate was timely, not least because the Public Accounts Committee had the same day published a report on the Financial Sustainability of the NHS, which can be found here
It summarises these issues and makes recommendations. We now need to await a Government response.
Along with my Labour colleagues I will continue to apply pressure to Ministers on this most important issue.
