Bristol South MP encourages constituents to nominate community heroes for the Your UK Parliament Awards

Local MP Karin Smyth is encouraging people in Bristol South to enter the annual Your UK Parliament Awards. The awards celebrate the brilliant work carried out all over the UK by individuals and organisations who are making a difference to their communities, or who promote democratic action.  Whether it’s hosting a debate for a campaign, promoting community engagement, taking action on an issue you care about or sharing information with the local community, nothing is too big or too small.

Nominations for the awards are now open, with people able to nominate a local person, organisation – or themselves!  There are 7 different award categories to be chosen from ranging from community campaigns, digital campaigns to school of the year.  The closing date for applications is January 31st, and more information about the different categories and how to apply can be found on the Your UK Parliament website.

Karin Smyth MP said:

The past twelve months have been some of the worst times, but we have also seen the best of people coming through for south Bristol.  Recent campaigns in south Bristol, such as the campaign to save the well-loved Jubilee swimming pool in Knowle, show the difference that individuals and organisations can make even in difficult times.

It is important that these people taking positive action can be recognised, and the Your UK Parliament Awards are a great opportunity to do this.

“I’d like to encourage people to make a nomination so that we can highlight the positive actions of local people doing great things, in a year which has been incredibly difficult for everyone.”
